How does the calorie calculator work?
Our calorie calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, which is considered the most accurate method for calculating basal metabolic rate (BMR). BMR indicates how many calories your body burns at rest. Multiplied by your activity factor, this gives your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) - the total number of calories you burn each day. For weight loss, a deficit of 500 kcal is recommended, and for weight gain, a surplus of 300 kcal.
